Natalie Okri’s Dad Speaks Out

Natalie Okri’s father, Godwin, 44,  has been speaking to the Sunday People newspaper about his relationship, or should I say lack of relationship, with his daughter. He says that he had never heard his daughter sing, until he watched her on the TV last night. He has not even seen her in the six years that he has been apart from her mum, Tabeth.

However, he is now apparently seeking a reunion with Natalie, stating: “I’ve always wanted Natalie back in my life. I’m her dad. I miss her terribly.”

Godwin watched Britain’s Got Talent from his home in Belvedere, Kent, with his wife Victoria and their two children.

Godwin lives in a four-bedroom bungalow, which contrasts sharply with the cramped flat where Natalie, her mother Tabeth, and sister Michelle live. However, he has stated that he: “Tried to have contact but Tabeth will not have it.”  Tabeth nevertheless maintains that Godwin has not been in touch with her since 2003.

Clearly upset, she stated: “Natalie found it hard not having her dad around. He doesn’t want to know. He has his own family now.”

Figures. I’ve seen this too many times – parents forgetting their children until they’re either a) shamed publically, or b) missing out on a financial opportunity. I only hope that there’s no drama for this young girl’s life, or we’re going to end up with another Lindsay Lohan, completely confused about her relationship with her dysfunctional family. In my opinion, assuming he in fact never tried to contact the family, he should leave them alone; however, if he had indeed tried to contact the family but the mum wouldn’t allow it, I wonder why he only now wants to try again. A devoted father wouldn’t give up so easily and just re-appear after six years of separation. Just let Natalie be happy, and if she wants to contact her dad, let her. But it’s not up to the dad anymore is it? He had his chance. It’s up to Natalie now. I don’t think anyone should ask Natalie. I think Natalie should have to initiate and ask about her father. It’s just totally unfair of him to bring her drama when she’s on such a high in life.

I agree its all about the money, wishing you were in her life is not the same as being in her life.I hope her mom does not fall for that. But ultimatly its up to Natalie.
